Mayor Woodford To Present 7 Proclamations At 10/02/2024 Common Council Meeting – Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Fire Prevention Week, Indigenous Peoples Day, Mental Health Day, Coming Out Day, White Cane Safety Day, and Dysautonomia Awareness Week

This evening at the 10/02/2024 Common Council meeting, Mayor Woodford will be presenting 7 mayoral proclamations.

With the first, he proclaims October 2024 to me Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Appleton and encourages “residents to take part in activities that honor the memory of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, celebrate the strength and resilience of survivors, and support the efforts of those who work tirelessly to end violence in our communities.”

With the second he proclaims October 6-12, 2024 to be Fire Prevention Week in Appleton and encourages “residents to embrace public fire safety education and take proactive steps to protect themselves and their homes from fire. The 2024 Fire Prevention Week theme, ‘Smoke alarms: Make them work for you,’ serves as a vital reminder to ensure every home is equipped with functioning smoke alarms.”

With the third he proclaims October 14, 2024 to be Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Appleton and urges “residents to celebrate and value the Indigenous Peoples of Appleton, participate in the annual celebrations and activities, encourage the teaching of their history, encourage businesses, organizations, and public institutions to recognize this day, and promote the well-being of Appleton’s Indigenous community.”

With the fourth he proclaims October 10 to be Mental Health Day in Appleton and reminds “residents of available community resources to help take care of their own mental health and provide support to others.”

With the fifth, he proclaims October 11, 2024 to be Coming Out Day in Appleton and urges “all citizens to honor, celebrate, and promote equal rights to all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”

With the sixth, he proclaims October 15, 2024 to be White Cane Awareness Day in Appleton and reminds “residents to recognize the white cane as a tool of independence for blind pedestrians in our community.”

With the seventh he proclaims October 2024 to be Dysautonomia Awareness Month in Appleton and encourages “residents to learn more about dysautonomia and how they can support those impacted by this condition.”
