Alderperson Vered Meltzer Submits Resolution That Would Strip Committee Assignments From Any Council Member With 3 Unexcused Absences – Resolution Will Be Taken Up At Common Council’s Next Organizational Meeting

One resolution was submitted during the 09/18/2024 Common Council meeting.

Resolution 9-R-24 was authored by Alderperson Vered Meltzer (District 2) and pertains to committee and Council meeting attendance. It would require all Council members to proactively excuse themselves from Council and committee meetings when they will not be able to attend. An alderperson with 3 unexcused absences would be removed from their committee assignments [presumably for the duration of the Council year.]

Rather than being referred to a committee, the resolution was referred to the Common Council to be taken up at their next Organizational Meeting. There is one regularly scheduled Organizational Meeting every year in April after the recently elected Council members are sworn in, but the Council can opt to hold other Organizational Meetings throughout the year if they so choose.
