Fox Cities Transit Commission Meeting 08/27/2024 – Will Vote On Sole Source Contract For Architectural And Engineering Services For Phase 2 Of Whitman Avenue Facility Remodel

The Fox Cities Transit Commission is meeting 08/27/2024 at 2:50PM.

They have two action items on the agenda.

The first is the routine approval of the July payments.

The second is a request to award a sole source contract for architectural and engineering services to Kueny Architects for phase 2 of the Whitman Avenue remodeling project. Phase 2 of the project will involve renovation of maintenance, bush wash, fueling, and bus storage areas and has a budget of $15 million, $12 million of which will be covered by federal funds.

Kueny Architects performed the architectural and engineering services for phase 1 of the Whitman Avenue remodel. Staff is recommending that a sole source contract be offered to them for this next phase because using a different firm “would result in substantial duplication of work and expense.”

The commission will also be receiving several action items, the first of which is the 2023 audit presentation which was held at the last commission meeting.

They will review the July 2024 ridership numbers. At 41,797, the fixed route ridership numbers were around 5,000 lower than in 2023 and 2022, and were on par with the numbers in 2021. July’s numbers are lower by over 20,000 than the pre-2020 levels.

Finally, the commission will be receiving information on the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program goal. I find the memo provided to the commission on the matter confusing. It sounds like, per federal regulations, Valley Transit is planning to spend $66,900 per year on contracts with businesses managed by “socially and economically disadvantaged individuals.”
