Common Council Meeting 08/21/2024 – Will Vote On Wheel Tax Resolution, Alcohol License For Corner Pub, Reallocation Of ARPA Funds For City’s Strategic Plan

The Common Council is meeting 08/21/2024 at 7PM.

They have a few items on the agenda that seem likely candidates to be separated out for an individual vote.

The renewal of the Class B Beer and Malt Liquor license for the Corner Pub will, hopefully, finally be receiving a final vote by the Common Council. It has been before the Safety and Licensing Committee multiple times which has changed its recommendations several times, most recently voting 4-1 to recommend the license be approved.

If the homeowner who recently had their variance for a driveway extension denied by the Municipal Services Committee appears at the Common Council meeting, I would expect that item to be separated out.

The resolution requiring a 2/3 vote of the Common Council to change the amount of the wheel tax did not garner much discussion at the Finance Committee, but it is a resolution and had some opposition, being approved by only a 3-1 vote.

The request to reallocate $45,000 of ARPA funds to an update of the city’s Strategic Plan also had some opposition and was recommended for approval by a vote of 3-1.

As part of the business presented by the mayor, Mayor Woodford will be recommending a new appointment to the Police and Fire Commission as well as making a recommendation on who to appoint to the Metropolitan Planning Organization.
