City Plan Commission Meeting 08/14/2024 – Will Vote On Rezoning For Property Near City Park

The City Plan Commission is meeting 08/14/2024 at 3:30PM.

They have three action items on the agenda, two of which have associated public hearings.

The first action item with a public hearing is a request to rezone a property on North Drew Street across from City Park from R-2 Two-Family Residential District to R-1C Central City Residential District. The rezoning will facilitate the restoration of “a historic porch” on the front of the house. Although perhaps not relevant to the rezoning request, city staff do note in their report that this house was the first house the novelist Edna Ferber lived in when her family moved to Appleton when she was 12 years old.

The second action item with a public hearing is a request to vacate a portion of the North Sampson Street public right-of-way. This area has been part of the public right of way since the early 1900s but was never had a public road or utilities constructed on it. In fact, it houses a private driveway. The city would like to give this land back to the nearby property owners.

The third action item is a request to approve the disposition of a land locked parcel located between East Winnebago Street and Bellaire Court. This area of land is near where the North Sampson Street vacation will be taking place. This plot was initially intended to be used as public land, but it is land locked, and an adjacent property owner recently contacted the city about acquiring the land. City staff is asking for permission to notify all of the adjacent property owners about the land and sell it to the highest bidder.

Finally, as an information item, the commission will be continuing a discussion from the last commission meeting regarding plans for West College Avenue.
