Alderperson Chris Croatt Introduces Resolution That Would Require 2/3 Of Common Council To Approve Changes To The Wheel Tax

One new resolution was submitted during the 07/17/2024 Common Council meeting. Authored by Alderperson Chris Croatt (District 14), Resolution 8-R-24 the Resolution to Require a Super Majority Vote on Wheel Tax or Wheel Tax Related Fee Increases would, if passed, required that changes to the wheel tax only be implemented by approval of 2/3 of the Common Council.

This would bring the vote threshold for changes to the wheel tax in line with the threshold required to approve other financial decisions such as increases to alderpersons’ salaries, transfer of funds, and special use permits.

This resolution comes a month after the Common Council passed by a simple majority of 8-7 a $10 per year per vehicle increase to the wheel tax.

The resolution has been referred to the Finance Committee for discussion and a vote.
