The Fox Cities Transit Commission is meeting 06/11/2024 at 2:50PM.
They have two action items on the agenda.
The first is a request to approve the redesignation of the Appleton/Fox Cities Metropolitan Planning Organization in accordance with federal code.
The second item is probably of more interest to the general public. It is the request to approve changes to Valley Transit’s evening and Saturday service schedule. As discussed at the 05/30/2024 Transit Commission meeting, Valley Transit currently only has 17 of 36 full time driver positions filled and has suffered a chronic inability to attract and retain bus drivers. As a result, they believe it is necessary to eliminate weekday evening bus service and afternoon Saturday bus service and replace it with the Valley Transit Connector Service.
Under this new system the fix route buses would operate as follows:
- Monday – Friday: 5:45AM – 6:15PM
- Saturday: 7:45AM – 1:15PM
- Sunday: No service
The Valley Transit Connector Service would operate as follows:
- Monday – Friday: 4AM – 6AM and 6PM – Midnight
- Saturday: 4AM – 8AM and 1PM – Midnight
- Sunday: No service
On 06/04/2024, Valley Transit held a public hearing to discuss the proposed service changes.
The feedback they received both in-person and via email/letter universally expressed negativity toward this change, which many people expressing the view that this will negatively impact low-income and disabled people and make transportation more difficult to obtain by people who work evenings and weekends.
