The Appleton Area School District Board of Education is meeting 10/10/2022 at 6PM.
They will be “recognizing the Board of Education members for their commitment to their communities and students.”
They will also be voting on a new health insurance carrier and plan design. WEA Trust (a long-time insurer for school districts) is exiting the insurance market at the end of the year, so the District needed to get a new carrier. They asked for quotes from a number of insurance companies. Per the memo, “There were several carriers that declined to bid given our medical claims loss ratio, were not affordable, or included significant cost shifting in the form of deductibles, co-pays, and out-of-pocket maximums to employees.”
They ended up settling on a self-funding option with Prairie States. The projected cost of health insurance premiums for 2023 is between $29.5 million and $34.7 million which would be an increase of between 1.67% and 19.49%. [A fairly wide range.]
They will also be voting on updates to the Mat Topics curriculum and the curriculum for middle school choir, band, and orchestra.
