The Municipal Services Committee is meeting 09/12/2022 at 4:30PM. They will be taking up a couple of ongoing items.
The street terrace policy modifications item was referred back to the committee to give them the opportunity to discuss safety concerns raised by some residents.
They will also be voting on Michael’s driveway extension. This has been an ongoing agenda item since the end of July. Most recently, it sounded like the city had reached an agreement with Michael, the property owner, as to how to bring his driveway extension into compliance with city code, and at the previous meeting the committee voted to hold the item in order to give staff more time to hear back from Michael. I drove past the house yesterday morning and it still hadn’t been brought into compliance, but perhaps there are plans in the work. We will have to wait and see what information is brought forth at the meeting.
Speaking of driveway extensions, another property owner in the city will be requesting a variance to widen his driveway more than 4’ into his front yard. Per the letter from the applicant, the property owner actually wanted to extend the driveway 12 feet into his side yard (which would not require a variance), but city staff, for reasons unstated in the letter, told him he needed to extend it into his front yard instead (which necessitates a variance).
The committee will also be voting on modifications to the City of Appleton Downtown Parking Policy for City Employees and Map as well as a request from a Downtown restaurant for a street occupancy permit to place tables and chairs outside.
