The Board of Health is meeting 08/10/2022 at 7AM.
They’ll be voting on a request to approve the Weights and Measures Fee Schedule and receiving several reports including the approved noise variance requests, the 2022 2nd Quarter Report, and the Emergent Infectious Disease Report.
The item that will probably be the most interesting, and one that hasn’t come before the Board of Health since I started following meetings, is a dangerous animal determination.
Apparently an Appleton resident named Elizabeth has an emotional support German Shepard who was not trained and jumped on one child and bit another. Under city code, when an animal is deemed a dangerous animal the owner must comply with a number of requirements in order to keep the animal within the city, unless those requirement are waived by the Board of Health. Those requirements include keeping the animal within the fenced area of the owner’s yard and leashing and muzzling the animal when outside of the fenced yard. Essentially, the dog needs to be controlled and confined at all times. The owner also needs to post signs prominently on their property warning that there is a dangerous animal on the premises, must get the dog spayed or neutered, and must have $1 million in liability insurance.
The owner has formally objected to her dog being labelled a dangerous animal, a person who provided some training to the dog has also submitted a letter explaining what sort of training he provided to the dog, and the mother of the two children who were injured contacted the city and requested that the dog not be labelled as dangerous.
