Coronavirus Numbers For 05/15/2022 – 05/21/2022

The Covid numbers for the weekend were not available yesterday, but they have finally be posted. I have started pulling Covid numbers from the Wisconsin DHS website instead of from the City of Appleton.

Last week from 05/15/2022 through 05/21/2022, Appleton recorded 104 confirmed cases and 29 probable cases for a total of 133. There were no new deaths reported last week, and no deaths added to previous weeks either. The total number of deaths with/from coronavirus in Appleton since the start of the pandemic is still 158.

Winnebago County currently has a Covid-19 Community Level of “Medium” as determined by the CDC’s metrics, which makes Appleton’s community level “Medium” also. Appleton has been at the “Medium” level for 3 weeks.

Appleton recorded it’s first case of coronavirus on 03/18/2020, so we are now on our third year of Covid tracking. The current 7-day running average of confirmed and probable cases is 19.00 as compared to 6.71 on this day last year, and 3.14 the year before (there was obviously very little testing during the early days of the pandemic in 2020).

During the full 2021-22 cycle we had 63 total deaths with/from coronavirus as compared to 94 during the 2020-21 cycle. Right now, we have had 1 death since March 18, 2022, as compared to 3 deaths between March 18 and May 21 in 2021 and 2 in 2020.

At the end of the first-year cycle, the death rate for known cases of coronavirus was 1.17%. At the end of the second-year cycle, the death rate was down to 0.49%. Currently, in the third-year cycle from March 18 to May 21, the death rate for known cases of coronavirus is down to 0.12%.

There are currently 18 WI counties in the “High” level, 35 in the “Medium” level, and 19 counties in the “Low” level.

The fully vaccinated rates for the “High” counties range from 41.5% to 70.4%. The “Medium” counties range from 34.7% to 79.0%. The “Low” counties had fully vaccinated rates ranging from 48.5% to 64.0%.
