Safety And Licensing Committee Reviews Alcohol License Violations By 5 Local Businesses Convicted Of Dispensing Alcohol To Minors

The Safety and Licensing Committee met 08/13/2025. During that meeting they held public appearances for 5 local businesses that had recently been convicted of dispensing alcohol to minors. Each of the businesses received 80 demerit points on their alcohol licenses and were asked to appear before the committee, explain the circumstances surrounding the violation, and outline steps they were taking to prevent such violations from happening in the future.

I’ve prepared a transcript of the discussion for download:

THE BENT KEG – The licensed agent appeared at the committee and said that he spoke with the people who ran the business. The night of the incident had been chaotic due to a party of over 100 people taking place. He had talked with the managers about staffing better and hiring bouncers for hours when they hold large parties. They also purchases an ID scanner and have contacted he Police Department about receiving the free training they offer.

LINDO MICHOACAN – In addition to the 80 demerit points for dispensing alcohol to a minor, they also received 40 demerit points for not having a licensed operator on the premises. Both of those violations occurred on 03/22/2025.

The licensed agent did not go into detail as to the circumstances around the violation. He told the committee that they had been having a lot of staffing issues. Training, in particular, was difficult because they had to translate everything into Spanish. He told the committee they had been able to get a good training team together, were having weekly meetings with staff, and were giving staff a list of things to do to prevent something like that from happening again.

NORTHLAND AVENUE AMOCO – The license holder appeared. He didn’t seem to speak English particularly well which may be why his statement was very brief. He said that he already paid the fine associated with the violation. He said the incident had happened because he had been confused due to a family problem. He planned to be more careful in the future.

MILL CITY PUBLIC HOUSE – Nobody from Mill City Public House appeared at the committee meeting which surprised me a little because back when they were going through the initial license approval process associated with starting their business, one of the co-owners made a point of attending all of the licensing meetings in-person even though it’s not typically necessary for an applicant to attend.

EL AZTECA RESTAURANT – Nobody from El Azteca attended the meeting.
