Common Council Votes 8-4 To Reconstruct Oklahoma Street At 26 Feet And Remove Parking From One Side – Mayor Acknowledges Residents’ Concerns About Process And Lack Of Dialogue

The Common Council met 08/20/2025 and voted on the design for the Oklahoma Street reconstruction. Nearly 50 residents of the street had signed a petition for the street to be reconstructed at a width of 32 feet so that parking on both sides of the street could be maintained. The Common Council, however, voted 8-4 to approve the design recommended by city staff which narrows the street to 26 feet and removes parking from one side.

It was a lengthy meeting with 30 minutes of public participation and the Council spending another 30 minutes deliberating on the matter. Although the vote did not go as many Oklahoma Street residents had hoped, Mayor Woodford said that the city would take the residents’ concerns about the process into consideration. He acknowledges their concerns about the lack of dialogue regarding the project and said he would take it to heart and work with staff on that for future projects.

A transcript of the meeting will be forthcoming. In the meantime, WBAY has posted an article about the meeting: https://www.wbay.com/2025/08/21/appleton-common-council-approves-design-oklahoma-st-update/
