The Municipal Services Committee is meeting 08/11/2025.
They only have two items on the agenda but I would expect it to be a long meeting, because the first item is a request to approve the design for the Oklahoma Street reconstruction between Mason Street and Richmond Street. The proposed design would narrow the street from 32 feet to 26 feet and reduce parking to only one side. Additionally, 41 tree are marked for removal, 32 because they are in poor condition, 8 due to the negative impact construction is expected to have on them, and 1 because it is an ash tree. City staff expect to be able to save 13 existing trees by narrowing the street.
Residents oppose the loss of the trees and the removal of parking on one side of the street. The tree loss may not be avoidable, but the loss of parking is only happening because the city implemented new street reconstruction guidelines which prioritize eliminating parking on one side of the street in most residential contexts.
The second item is a long-term temporary occupancy permit for a construction dumpster to be placed on Lawrence Street.
