The Safety and Licensing Committee is meeting 04/09/2025 at 5:30PM.
They have two items on the agenda that were held at the previous committee meeting. One is the liquor license change of agent application for Tandem Wine and Beer. The current license holder appears to have recently been convicted for driving with a prohibited alcohol content level and also had a charge of possession of cocaine read into the record. The person applying to become the new license holder appears to live at the same address as he does. None of this is mentioned in the application, and the reason for the change of agent is vaguely stated as, “I am present at Tandem during operating hours.”

The second item is an application for a Part A Beer and Liquor license for Jai Sun Mah Pool Club. Severa years ago, the business had been a source of problems in the neighborhood so there was concern that problems might start again if the business was granted an alcohol license. Additionally, the applicant indicated they had a criminal fraud conviction on their record.

Both items were put on hold in order to provide time for the Police Department and the City Attorney’s Office to review the issues around them more thoroughly. At this point, however, no additional information has been attached to the agent regarding these applications.
The committee will also be voting on three temporary alcohol licenses and one Class C wine license for various businesses.
Additionally, they will be voting on a request from the Fire Department to apply for the 2025 Elevate Communities grant. The Fire Department would like to apply for $19,910.24 in grant dollars from Capital Credit Union to cover the cost of purchasing a BullsEye Digital Fire Extinguisher Trainer to provide hands-on fire extinguisher training.

As an information item, they will receive the Fire Department’s 2024 Annual Report.
