Safety And Licensing Committee Reviews Alcohol License Violation, Votes On Alcohol License For Bunnies On The Ave

The Safety and Licensing Committee met 02/26/2025. In addition to the three items related to Mr. Singh, they had two other items that they dealt with. One was an alcohol license violation appearance which was held and the other was an application for an alcohol license for Bunnies on the Ave, the business that is taking over the location formerly occupied by Speakeasy Ultra Lounge. This application was recommended for approval by a vote of 4-1 with Alderperson Chad Doran (District 15) casting the dissenting vote.

I’ve prepared a transcript of the discussion for download:

HOME BURGER BAR DEMERIT POINT VIOLATION APPEARANCE:

Home Burger Bar received 40 demerit points for an incident in October in which they had no licensed operator on the premises.

The owner, Mandy Ferg, and her husband appeared before the committee. Ms. Ferg told the committee that the issue in question happened when the bartender who had been scheduled had a family emergency and couldn’t work. They knew another bartender and asked this person to cover the bar. [It was not explicitly stated, but presumably this person had bartending experience but did not have an operator’s license.]

Ms. Ferg said their business was family owned and operated with a small staff. They had responded to this incident by hiring some additional people. She recognized that this was an error on their part and stressed that they wanted to follow the rules and had taken steps to correct things.

BUNNIES ON THE AVE ALCOHOL LICENSE:

Bunnies on the Ave is taking over the location that housed the now shuttered Speakeasy Ultra Lounge. Alderperson Doran said that he saw that the applicant had been cited in 2024 for having no operator at a different establishment that he owns. For that reason, he opposed approving the license application.

Nobody else on the committee had anything to say about the application and the committee voted to recommend approval by a vote of 4-1 with Alderperson Doran casting the dissenting vote.

[I have looked over the application and I don’t see where it indicates the applicant had that conviction or received those demerit points, but maybe I’m just missing where that was written.]
