Safety And Licensing Committee Receives Update On Voting Options For November Election

The Safety and Licensing Committee met 09/11/2024. The action items were approved with no discussion, and most of the 6-minute meeting was taken up with discussion about absentee and early-in-person voting.

I’ve prepared a transcript of the discussion for download:

City Clerk Kami Lynch, told the committee that absentee ballots were going to start going out at the end of the week, so I presume they started getting mailed 09/13/2024.

DROP BOX INFO – There will be a drop box for absentee ballots which will be set up something this week (09/16-09/20), and it will be in place through 11/04, the Monday before the election.

The drop-box will be located in the exit to the alleyway by the Finance Payment Window. Unfortunately, because the alleyway is closed due to construction, the drop box will not be accessible to vehicles and people will need to walk up to it.

IN PERSON ABSENTEE INFO – In-person absentee voting will begin 10/22 and run through 11/01. The hours and dates of available are posted on the city’s website.

Because the drive-through alleyway is closed, they intend to reserve some meters on Washington Street to be utilized for curbside voting by people with mobility issues. Clerk Lynch also hoped to be able to reserve a parking stall on College but was not sure if that would be approved. People will be able to park in the stalls and call the city and then a city staff member would come out and help them with voter registration or voting.
