Board Of Education Meeting 08/12/2024 – Will Vote On Meal Price Increase, Receive Presentation On Proposed Policy Regarding Nondiscrimination On The Basis Of Sex In Education Programs Or Activities

The Appleton Area School District Board of Education is meeting 08/12/2024 at 6PM.

They will be voting on an increase to meal prices for the 2024-2025 school year.

They will also be voting to accept the Mega Results Monitoring Report for 2023-2024 and the Emergency Superintendent Succession Monitoring Report.

Additionally, as an information item, they will be reviewing and receiving a presentation on the request to adopt District Policy 411.3 regarding nondiscrimination on the basis of sex in education programs or activities. The policy outlines that AASD “does not discriminate on the basis of sex and prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity that it operates, as required by Title IX, including in admission and employment.” It notes that, “Discrimination on the basis of sex includes discrimination on the basis of sex stereotypes, sex characteristics, pregnancy or related conditions, sexual orientation, and gender identity.”

Although the draft policy is 24 pages long, it does not seem to address how the District plans to address the conflict between protecting females from sexual harassment (which would include the presence of males in private female spaces such as bathrooms and changing rooms) while also protecting males who identify as girls from harassment over their gender identity when those males demand access to private female spaces.

Finally, the agenda indicated the Board intends to go into closed session “for the purpose of discussing a Legal matter update,” as well as to discussion the Superintendent’s compensation and contract.
