Parks And Recreation Committee Reviews Mid-Year Report, June Revenue Report For Reid Golf Course – Committee Members Praise Mom Prom, Confirm That Price Increases Have Not Impacted Golf Course Use

The Parks and Recreation Committee met 07/08/2024. It was a brief meeting lasting not quite 5 minutes. There were no action items, but they did receive the 2024 mid-year Parks and Recreation report as well as the June Revenue and Expense Report for Reid Golf Course.

I’ve prepared a transcript of the meeting for download:

2024 MID-YEAR REPORT – Alderperson Vaya Jones (District 10) thanked the Parks and Rec Department for holding the Mom Prom event which she said was an incredible event. Alderperson Katie Van Zeeland (District 5) agreed saying, “Moms love the prom. That is true.”

Alderperson Martyn Smith (District 4) asked if the move away from sending out a physical guidebook toward just having information online had negatively impacted participation. Director of Parks and Recreation Dean Gazza said that when registration first opened sign-ups seemed to lag, but things ended up picking up and the participation numbers for youth sports ended up being very good. He did not think the change was a barrier for people wanting to register.

REID GOLF COURSE JUNE 2024 REPORT – Earlier in the season Reid was running around $100,000 above where it was last year in revenue, but as they got into summer that lagged. It is still running ahead of last year, but only by about $45,000. The rain was hurting golf course usage “slightly”, and golfers were still booking tee times any chance they could.

Alderperson Nate Wolff (District 12) asked if the increase in prices had impacted anything. Director Gazza said it had not had any negative effect, and you would not know that prices had been increased based on the number of people booking tee times.
