Board Of Health Meeting 06/12/2024 – Will Review City’s Tuberculosis Screening Policy

The Board of Health is meeting 06/12/2024 at 7AM.

They have a few housekeeping action items on the agenda as well as a policy review of the city’s tuberculosis screening policy.

They have a number of information items on the agenda. These include Table of Organization changes that will be coming before the Human Resources and Information Technology Committee as an action item. Health Officer Sepers is requesting approval to move a full-time nurse from 4.0 to 4.1 due to “a significant influx of latent tuberculosis infection cases linked to the arrival of a large number of refugees in Wisconsin’s Northeast region and a noticeable rise in the utilization of the Pre Natal-Care Coordination program by Appleton residents.”

The Health Department will use funds budgeted for part time wages to pay for the increase in hours worked by the full time public health nurse.

The board will also be receiving the 1st Quarter report and the Covid 19 Wastewater Treatment Facility report.

They will also be receiving information on recent dangerous animal declarations.

Cedar, a Great Dane, was declared a dangerous animal after an incident on 05/13/2024 in which, unprovoked, he attacked another dog and two humans. Per the incident summary, “The severity of wounds sustained by the victims needed medical care from a hospital to treat.”

Ace, an Australian Shepard, engaged in two unprovoked attacks against children. The first was an incident in February when he bit a child’s hand. The second was in April when it “attacked a child multiple times as he was riding his bike on the sidewalk,” causing injuries that required medical attention at a hospital.
