The Board of Health met 02/14/2024. One of the information items they received was an update regarding a dangerous animal declaration.
Tony, a male pit bull, had been declared a dangerous animal after he bit a human family member’s face in an unprovoked attack. He also “lunged at a 2-year-old family who was just petting Tony. This also caused a bruise on the 2-year-old’s face.”
Owners of animals that have been declared dangerous do have options to keep their pets by adhering to strict rules about containing their animals and muzzling and leashing them when they leave their property; however, Health Officer Sepers told the Board of Health that Tony had been euthanized [presumably on the decision of the owner.]
This is the first dangerous animal declaration of 2024. In 2023 there were 5 dangerous animal declarations which was up quite a bit from the 1 in 2022, and the 0 in 2021 and 2020.
