The Utilities Committee is meeting 10/10/2023 at 4:30PM.
They have three action items on the agenda.
The first is to approve a $50,000 single source award for stormwater consulting services pertaining to the Interstate 41 reconstruction project. The contractor, Brown and Caldwell, has already done previous work regarding stormwater management pertaining to the I41 project, so city staff would like to continue using them.
The second is an amendment to the 2023A Stormwater Management Plan Review contract the city has with Brown and Caldwell which would increase the contract amount by $20,000. Per the staff memo, “Work under this contract is charged on an hourly basis and is therefore only used as needed. In order to keep projects moving forward, staff is requesting this amendment now, before the current contract is completely spent.”
The final action item is a request to approve a 7% wastewater rate increase for general service and special hauled waste service and an increase of the compost fee to $13 per cubic yard, effective 01/01/2024. Per the memo from staff, even after the increase, the residential sewer rate in Appleton will still be lower than many comparable nearby communities [so, presumably residents are all going to be fine with the increase.]
Finally, the committee will be discussing the 2024 Utilities Department budget and receiving the monthly water main break report for August of 2023. Year to date, as of the end of August, water main breaks are only half of where they were in 2022.
