Mayor Woodford will be presenting 6 mayoral proclamations at the 10/04/2023 Common Council meeting.
With the first, he proclaims October 9, 2023 to be Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Appleton and urges “all residents to celebrate and value to Indigenous’ Peoples of Appleton, participate in the annual celebrations and activities, encourage the teaching of their history, encourage businesses, organizations, and public institutions to recognize this day, and promote the well-being of Appleton’s Indigenous community.”
With the second he proclaims October 10, 2023 to be Mental Health Day in Appleton and reminds “residents of available community resources to help take care of their own mental health and provide support to other.”
With the third he proclaims October 11, 2023 to be Coming Out Day in Appleton and urges “citizens to honor, celebrate, and promote equal rights to all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”
With the fourth he proclaims October 15, 2024 to be White Cane Awareness Day in Appleton and reminds “residents to recognize the white cane as a tool of independence for blind pedestrians in our community.”
With the fifth, he proclaims the week of October 8-14 to be Fire Prevention Week and encourages “residents to support public education measures and take steps to increase their safety from fire, especially in their homes, and the 2023 Fire Prevention Week theme ‘Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention,’ effectively serves to remind us to stay alert and use caution when cooking to reduce the risk of kitchen fires.
With the sixth, he proclaims October 2023 to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Appleton and encourages “residents to participate in activities that mourn those who have died as a result of domestic violence, celebrate those who have survived, and connect those who work to end violence.”
