The Common Council is meeting 09/06/2023 at 7PM.
Mayor Woodford will be giving an update on the Budget Development Process and also making an appointment to the Public Art Committee.
The most recent committee week was pretty quiet and most items did not generate much conversation at the committee level with the exception of the requestion to approve the fourth addition to Clearwater Creek Preliminary Plat and rezone that land from AG Agricultural District to R-1B Single Family District. Those items prompted concerns from neighbors, several of whom spoke at the City Plan Commission on the requests.
Some other items of note include…
- The Circle Street vacation request. Although currently considered a public right of way, this section of “street” has the Kaleidoscope Academy building sitting on top of it, so one would assume the finalization of the street vacation would be approved.
- The St. Joseph’s Cemetery reimbursement request for the maintenance of Veteran graves. If I understood the discussion at the Finance Committee correctly, the reimbursement would have ultimately been paid to the cemetery by Outagamie County not the City of Appleton, although it had to be approved by the city first. Unfortunately, the cemetery did not have the property paperwork in place to request a reimbursement. The deadline for submitting that paperwork to Outagamie County was September 1st, which St. Joseph’s was not able to meet. So the Finance Committee voted to deny the reimbursement request.
- The Memorial Park Miracle League Field resurfacing project. The city, with the approval of Goodwill Industries who will be footing the bill, wants to move forward with the resurfacing after having previously had to reject the bid due to the cost being higher than expected.
