The Municipal Services Committee met 04/24/2023. It was a brief meeting, lasting only around 10 minutes.
One of the items they took up was Resolution 3-R-23, the resolution calling for the city’s Street Light Installation Policy to be reviewed.
I’ve prepared a transcript of the discussion for download.
This resolution was introduced by Alderperson Nate Wolff (District 12) who appeared at the committee and explained that this resolution resulted from a series of conversations with Eric Lom the City Traffic Engineer. Alderperson Wolff thought it was a good idea to review the policy since it had been a number of years since it had been put in place.
Alderperson Sheri Hartzheim (District 13) asked if reviewing the policy was something the traffic division was prepared for or would it cause an additional heavy workload?
Traffic Engineer Lom responded that they didn’t have a policy setting out how the timeframe for when a policy should be reviewed, but as times changed and the industry changed they did try to take a new look at things. The street light installation policy in question dated back to 2007, so it was time for a review and he didn’t think doing so would be too onerous for city staff.
The committee members were supportive of the resolution and hopeful that a review of the policy could help the city be more efficient in its spending. They voted 5-0 to approve the resolution.
