Appleton Redevelopment Authority Meeting 04/12/2023 – Will Vote On Committee Bylaws Change, Received Update On Environmental Remediation Efforts At 222 N Oneida Street Site

The Appleton Redevelopment Authority is meeting 04/12/2023 at 9AM.

The two action items on the agenda look like housekeeping issues more than anything.

One of them is a request to revise the Exhibition Center Advisory Committee bylaws to remove term limits for committee members. Currently, committee members are limited to 3 2-year terms and a vast majority of the committee members either already have reached or will be reaching their term limits in the near future. Staff is recommending removing term limits. “This will allow the decision of when it is best for a member to be replaced to be deferred to the appointing entity/community.”

The second item is a request to approve a new appointment and a re-appointment to the Exhibition Center Advisory Committee.

The Redevelopment Authority will also be receiving a number of information items including being introduced to Kara Homan the new Director and David Kress the new Deputy Director of Community and Economic Development in Appleton.

They will also receive an update on business enhancement grants as well as an update on the property at 222 N Oneida Street. Back in November of 2022, The Appleton Redevelopment Authority approved the sale of 222 N Oneida Street to Valley Transit so Valley Transit could build a multi-story mixed use transit center on the block between Washington and Franklin streets. There is environmental remediation that needs to take place on the property before the sale can close and Valley Transit paid $50,000 to go toward that remediation. Thus far $1,684 has been spent on remediation. Per the memo to the Appleton Redevelopment Authority, the monitoring wells that have been installed on the property have shown “some of the highest impacts at that location so far,” so the site can not be closed and the DNR is requesting that additional groundwater samples be collected which should happen in May.
