The Appleton Area School District Board of Education is meeting 03/27/2023 at 7PM.
The Board will be receiving two reports including a Lease Update for the City Center Space as well as information on the Employee Handbook Revision regarding educator retirement. Currently, in order to receive post-employment benefits, employees must submit a retirement letter by February 15 for end-of-year retirements or by October 20 for end-of-first-semester retirements. The leadership team would like to eliminate the option to retire at the end of the first semester with post-employment benefits and only provide those benefits to people who resign at the end of the school year. The administrative recommendation is to allow benefits for end-of-first-semester retirements for the 2023-24 school year and then move to allowing those only for end-of-year retirements for the 2024-25 school year.
The Board will also be voting on approving two monitoring reports, one pertaining to Asset Protection and one related to Learning Environment/Student Behavior.
The asset protection report essentially requires the superintendent to maintain appropriate insurance (both for property as well as Errors and Omissions and General Liability), take steps to protect the District against theft or misappropriation of funds, protect intellection property and information, protect facilities and equipment from improper use not recklessly expose the District, Board, or staff to legal liability, not invest funds in inappropriate funds, and not purchase or sell real estate without Board approval.
The Environment/Student Behavior report will be used to “provide evidence to the Board that the District provides instructional programming that supports students in acquiring the developmental skills necessary to lead healthy, satisfying, self-directed, and productive lives.”
