Common Council Meeting On 03/01/2023 Lasts Only 8 Minutes – Mayor Woodford Asks The Public To Donate To Multiple Sclerosis Fundraising Effort So He Doesn’t Have To Sing In Front Of De Pere Residents

The Common Council met 03/01/2023. It was probably one of the shortest Common Council meetings on record, clocking it at around 8 minutes.

I’ve prepared a PDF transcript of the meeting for your downloading pleasure.

Not only was the meeting short in length, it was also short in members. 5 alderpersons were absent which left only 10 alderpersons in attendance which was the minimum number they needed to have a quorum and be able to conduct business.

In a meeting that was only 8 minutes long, it almost goes without saying that no items were separated out for individual votes. However, even in a meeting of that length, there was at least one item of note.

While he was presenting the proclamation declaring March 12 through 18 to be MS Awareness Week in Appleton, Mayor Woodford mentioned that the cities of Appleton and De Pere had an MS Fundraising competition going on. The mayor of the losing city would have to sing in front of the crowd gathered at the MS Walk of the winning city. “So I’m asking for the help of the Appleton community to help me avoid that indignity by contributing to the fundraiser.”

Currently, Appleton is a little more than $2,000 behind De Pere.

[The question is: do the people of Appleton want to maintain our honor and raise a lot of money to fight Multiple Sclerosis, or do we want to force the people of De Pere to listen to our mayor sing? In order for me to personally answer that question, I would need to know what the song will be and how good of a singer Mayor Woodford is.]
