Municipal Services Committee Allows Homeowner To Withdraw Driveway Extension Variance Request

The saga of Michael’s driveway extension looks like it is drawing to an end.

Although he himself did not appear at the 09/12/2022 Municipal Services Committee meeting, he had been in communication with the Department of Public Works. Public Works Director Danielle Block told the committee that they had found a solution and Michael had asked to withdraw his variance request because he would be making modifications to the driveway that would bring him into compliance with city code. Staff had been communicating via email with Michael and they had come up with a sketch of what the final layout of the concrete in his front yard would be which Michal had agreed to. He was facing delays from his contractor, so the deadline to remove the sections of concrete had been set to 10/12/2022.

Although the committee had the option to vote on the variance request regardless of the request to withdraw, they could also honor the request. After Alderperson Chad Doran (District 15) double checked that allowing the request to be withdrawn would not interfere with staff’s ability to enforce city code the committee agreed to allow the variance request to be withdrawn. They did not need to take a formal vote for that.
