Common Council Approves Allocation Of $1.2 Million In 2021 Excess General Funds

During the 09/07/2022 Common Council meeting, the Council voted to approve the allocation of $1,175,000 from the 2021 excess general fund balance. This item was separated out for an individual vote and after slight discussion was approved unanimously by the Council.

Alderperson Sheri Hartzheim (District 13) noted that the memo indicated $1,199,568 was available to be allocated but the allocations only added up to $1,175,000. She wondered what the cause of that discrepancy was.

Finance Director Jeri Ohman answered that, instead of being allocated to other projects, that money would be added to the funds being designated to reduce long-term liabilities.

Alderperson Hartzheim wondered, since that wasn’t spelled out in the memo and had not been discussed during the Finance Committee meeting, if an amendment to the item was required. However, at the bottom of the memo it was stated that $3,623,273 would be used for debt reduction, so they didn’t end up needing an amendment.

There were no further questions and the Council voted 14-0 to approve the allocations.
