I have started pulling Covid case and death numbers from the Wisconsin DHS website instead of from the City of Appleton.
Last week from 07/17/2022 through 07/23/2022, Appleton recorded 127 confirmed cases and 8 probable cases for a total of 135. There were no new deaths recorded and the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic remains at 161.
Outagamie and Calumet counties are both in the “Low” Covid-19 Community Level as determined by the CDC’s metrics; however, Winnebago County is at the “Medium” level. That means that Appleton, which straddles those three counties, is in the “Medium” category.
Appleton recorded its first case of coronavirus on 03/18/2020, so we are now on our third year of Covid tracking. The current 7-day running average of confirmed and probable cases is 19.29 as compared to 4.43 on this day last year, and 9.29 the year before. We had 135 total cases this last week, as compared to 32 on this week last year, and 87 the year before.
During the full 2021-22 cycle we had 63 total deaths with/from coronavirus as compared to 96 during the 2020-21 cycle. Right now, we have had 2 death since March 18, 2022, as compared to 3 deaths between March 18 and July 21 in 2021 and 5 in 2020.
At the end of the first-year cycle, the death rate for known cases of coronavirus was 1.20%. At the end of the second-year cycle, the death rate was down to 0.49%. Currently, in the third-year cycle from March 18 to July 21, the death rate for known cases of coronavirus is down to 0.10%.
There are currently 16 WI county in the “High” level, 38 in the “Medium” level, and 18 counties in the “Low” level.
The fully vaccinated rates for the “High” counties range from 41.7% to 83.7%. The “Medium” counties range from 49.8% to 83.3%. The “Low” counties had fully vaccinated rates ranging from 35.9% to 65.1%.
