The Appleton Police Department released a statement on Facebook regarding an increase in property crime in the city.
APPLETON POLICE SEE AN INCREASE IN PROPERTY CRIME
Over the past few weeks, the Appleton Police Department has seen an increase in property crimes impacting our community.
Appleton Officers have responded to an upsurge in thefts related to unsecured items including unlocked vehicles with the keys inside, unsecured garages, and bikes left unlocked. Crimes of opportunity can be prevented by focusing on securing items, locking doors, and enhancing outdoor lighting.
In addition to thefts affecting residential neighborhoods, the Appleton Police Department has responded to multiple financial institutions where attempts to steal Automated Teller Machines have occurred in the early morning hours. Investigators are working on leads for the specific cases, but national trends show this type of crime is happening throughout the country and it can occur quickly.
The Appleton Police Department is asking our community, if you see something in your neighborhood please call. The photos above were from two of the recent thefts officers responded to.
