Coronavirus Numbers For 05/08/2022 – 05/14/2022

I have started pulling Covid numbers from the Wisconsin DHS website instead of from the City of Appleton.

Last week from 05/08/2022 through 05/14/2022, Appleton recorded 147 confirmed cases and 21 probable cases for a combined total of 168. During the recent Board of Health meeting, Appleton Health Officer Charles Sepers reported that deaths had been around 100 for the last couple weeks and he expected them to stay around that level until the end of the school year. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if this week’s increase in numbers was an anomaly.

There were no new deaths reported last week, and no deaths added to previous weeks either. The total number of deaths with/from coronavirus in Appleton since the start of the pandemic is still 158.

Winnebago County currently has a Covid-19 Community Level of “Medium” as determined by the CDC’s metrics, which makes Appleton’s community level “Medium” also.

We’re now on our third year of Covid tracking. The current 7-day running average of confirmed and probable cases is 24.0 as compared to 4.0 on this day last year, and 2.71 the year before.

During the full 2021-22 cycle we had 63 total deaths with/from coronavirus as compared to 94 during the 2020-21 cycle. Right now, we have had 1 death since March 18, 2022, as compared to 3 deaths between March 18 and May 14 in 2021 and 0 in 2020.

At the end of the first-year cycle, the death rate for known cases of coronavirus was 1.17%. At the end of the second-year cycle, the death rate was down to 0.49%. Currently, in the third-year cycle from March 18 to May 7, the death rate for known cases of coronavirus is down to 0.15%.

There are currently 7 WI counties in the “High” level, 38 in the “Medium” level, and 27 counties in the “Low” level.

The fully vaccinated rates for the “High” counties range from 41.5% to 66.3%. The “Medium” counties range from 46.4% to 79.0%. The “Low” counties had fully vaccinated rates ranging from 34.7% to 74.9%.
