The Appleton Area School District Board of Education is meeting 05/09/2022 at 6PM.
There are a few items on the agenda that may be of interest to the public.
First, they will be voting on the purchase of World Language – Spanish Readers and 8th Grade U.S. History Materials. These items were discussed during the 04/11/2022 Board of Education meeting, and the public feedback window was extended in an effort to receive more input regarding the materials.
The Board will receive an update on the District’s health insurance. The District switched to a new insurance carrier, NeuGen, in January of 2021. They received a rate hike of 7.8% for 2022 and, if they continue with NeuGen for 2023 are anticipating an increased cost to the District of $2.7 million. Per the memo, they have three options.
- Continue with NeuGen for a third year. We have renewal rate caps set at 8.5% and 10.5% for the two plans, so would anticipate a cost increase of approximately $2,700,000.
- Go to market to look for a different carrier.
- Self-fund our health care costs. We are working with consultants on the viability of self funding.
The Board will also be discussing the final draft of their Mega Result policy. Per the agenda documentation, “The Mega Result statement clarifies our definition of a student’s educational experience and is the overarching reason the Appleton Area School District exists.”
