After the City of Appleton recently discovered 68 deaths they had not reported, I decided to start pulling numbers from the WI DHS website instead.
Last week from 03/20/2022 through 03/26/2022, Appleton recorded 22 confirmed cases and 4 probable cases. There were no new deaths, but I have included a chart of Appleton deaths so that everyone can see how those unreported deaths were spread out over the last couple years. Per the DHS Appleton has had 151 deaths with/from Covid since the start of the pandemic.
We’re now starting the third year of Covid tracking. The current 7-day running average of confirmed and probable cases is 4.14 as compared to 12.86 on this day last year, and 0.00 the year before (there was obviously very little testing during the early days of the pandemic in 2020).
I look forward to seeing how the cases this year end up comparing with cases the previous two years. During the 2021-22 cycle we only had 57 total deaths with/from coronavirus as compared to 94 during the 2020-21 cycle. The rate of deaths as compared to known cases was also markedly lower at only 0.44% last cycle as compared to 1.17% during the first year. We’ll have to wait and see if the trend of fewer deaths and a lower death rate continues for this year.
