The Utilities Committee is meeting 01/11/2022 at 5pm.
The main action item on the agenda is the approval of the 2022 Private Lead / Galvanized Service Replacement Program. During the 12/15/2021 Common Council meeting, the Council approved and ordinance which requires property owners to replace their lead or galvanized service lines within a year of being notified by the city. The Council also designated $1 million in American Recovery Plan Act funds to go toward replacing known lead service lines. Residents who receive a notification can either pay for the replacement themselves or, within 30 days of receiving the notification, sign up for the replacement program through the city which will cover the costs of replacing the line–however, the property owner will have to pay out of their own pocket to restore the landscaping and repair any damage to pavement, steps, and porches that may happen during the process.
The committee will also be receiving the monthly water report and a report on the water main break history. It looks like water main breaks are up quite a bit in Appleton this year as compared to last year.
