Mayor Woodford Welcomes New Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator

Mayor Woodford took some time during the 06/16/2021 Common Council meeting to introduce the city’s newly hired Diversity Equity and Inclusion coordinator.

Terrence “Timber” Smith will be officially joining the Mayor’s office on Monday 06/21/2021.

Mr. Smith grew up in Milwaukee and came to the Fox Cities in 1992. He met his wife, Theresa, in 1994, and in 1997 they welcomed their daughter Madison. Over the last 29 years he’s worked and raised a family in the Fox Valley area.

Most recently he worked at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh as an admissions counselor and then as the Veterans Resource Coordinator. He served as the Cultural Retention and Recruitment Support Specialist for the Appleton Area School District and has also worked for Fox Valley Technical College and served on the work place DEI taskforce for the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. He currently serves on the DEI committee for the City of Oshkosh which is a group that advises on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

He holds a Bachelors degree in Sociology and a Masters degree in Education from UWO.

He’s active in the community serving as the vice president of a chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, which was the first intercollegiate fraternity established for African American men in 1906 at Cornell University.
