The Appleton Common Council is meeting 06/16/2021 at 7pm following their organizational meeting at 6pm.
The thing that first jumped out to me is that it appears there will be no Covid-19 update. I had wondered a few weeks ago when those would stop, and it seems they now are.
Mayor Woodford will be presenting a certificate of recognition to Mark Burstein who is stepping down as President of Lawrence University.
One never knows exactly what they’ll be pulling out from committee items for a separate vote. The Safety and Licensing Committee recommended that the City of Appleton align its licensing policy to the state and surrounding municipalities by allowing gas stations to apply for Class A liquor licenses so that they can sell wine and liquor in addition to the beer they are currently allowed to sell.
They’ll also be voting on the license approvals for various establishments which will also include the Core’s Lounge liquor license. It will be interesting to see if the residents who oppose that renewal will show up to voice their opposition to its renewal or if the owner of Core’s Lounge appears to speak in his own defense. Either way, it was established at the Safety and Licensing Committee meeting that the license needed to be approved because there was not enough time to give the owner due process at this point if the Council decided they did not want to renew it.
It also looks like, depending on how the organizational meeting goes, they may amend the city’s current ordinance regarding remote participation.
