Transit Commission Meeting 05/25/2021

The Fox Cities Transit Commission is meeting 05/25/2021 at 3pm.

The one action item is the approval of payments.

The commission will be reviewing the income and ridership numbers for April. Last year April was the first full month after Covid hit, so it’s the first month that we’re comparing a post-Covid month to a post-Covid month. In some respects, things seem to be improving compared to last year. Revenue in April 2021 is up over $100,000 compared to revenue in April 2020. However, their net income loss is $525,000 in April of this year as opposed to only $320,000 in April of last year. The main differences I see are a large increase in contractor fees and purchased services, increased overtime expenses, and the City of Appleton is not listed as having paid support in April of this year.

Fixed route ridership is up markedly over where it was in April of 2020, but it has not yet risen to pre-pandemic levels. Even though ridership is up, year to date fare revenue is down compared to last year when they had two 2.5 pre-pandemic months of full revenue.

There will also be a couple other reports/presentations including the Covid-19 report. Last month Valley Transit General Manager Ron McDonald had mentioned they expected the federal mask mandate to be extended past May. That was before the CDC updated its guidance for fully vaccinated people, but even though federal masking requirements have been lifted in some areas it appears they’re still in place for travel.
