The Parks and Recreation Committee is meeting 05/24/2021 at 6:30PM.
Outside of the basic housekeeping items of selecting a vice chair, designating a contact person, and confirming the date and time for committee meetings, they will be taking up only one item–Resolution #8-R-21 Resolution expressing support for Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program.
This resolution was sponsored by Alderperson Alex Schultz (District 9) and co-sponsored by Alderpersons Denise Fenton (District 6) and Vered Meltzer (District 2). Alderperson Schultz mentioned during the 05/19/2021 Common Council meeting that some additional alderpersons had signed on but it was not stated who those were.
Essentially the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program is “a matching funds
program that has supported land acquisition and capital development by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, local governments, and nonprofit conservation organizations to preserve valuable natural areas, wildlife habitat, water quality and outdoor recreation for public benefit around the state”. It is set to expire in 2022. This resolution, if passed, would show that Appleton supports reauthorizing of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program for another ten years.
