Human Resources And Information Technology Committee Meeting Scheduled For 04/14/2021

The Human Resources and Information Technology Committee is meeting 04/14/2021.

The main item of interest on the agenda is that they will be discussing Alderperson salaries. As you may recall, Alderperson Joe Martin (District 4) wanted to increase the salary by $4,000 to $10,125 a year. In fact, he expressed a desire to make that change retroactive to 2020, but it turned out that doing that would be against State Statute.

The Common Council ended up not voting on the proposal and instead referred the item back to committee.

Incoming District 15 Alderperson, Chad Doran, has started a website for his Alderperson activities. He mentions that he has “several thoughts on both this current discussion and ideas for improving this process in the future, but I will share those in a future update when there is clarity about when this current proposal will be voted on by the full council.” I’m interested to hear what his suggestions are.

They’ll also be voting on a Request to approve overhire for Help Desk Analyst position in I.T. One of the city’s two help desk analysts is planning to retire in August. Dean Fox, the IT Director, would like to pay $20,000 to have “the incumbent transfer their significant institutional knowledge over a 60 day period.” [I must admit, I choked a bit at that, but, honestly, I have no background to be able to tell if that’s a reasonable deal or not so I’ll try not to choke too much until I’ve heard the discussion. It could be a completely reasonable request.]

The committee will be updated on the changes made due to Director of HR Sandy Matz’s retirement. In light of retirement, the city has appointed an interim Director of Human Resources, Jay Ratchman, who will hold the position until a permanent replacement is secured.

Finally, the committee will be receiving a recruitment status report. There are two items of interest there. The application deadline is still open for the Health Officer position; this person will be replacing Kurt Eggebrecht who is retiring. It also appears that Mayor Woodford will be conducting interviews on 04/14/2021 for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator position.
