Board Of Education Candidate Amber McGinley Banned From AASD Property

School Board candidate and Appleton Area School District parent Amber McGinley has been banned from AASD property.

The Post Crescent has written a very thorough article about it.

Highlights include…

In the Feb. 22 letter — addressed to McGinley from Nan Bunnow, assistant superintendent for the elementary level — the district said there was “a series of incidents recently and over time establishing that disruptions are likely to occur if you come onto District premises.”

It is equally clear that students, staff, and even other parents are fearful of encounters with you, with good reason,” Bunnow wrote in the letter. “Although the district makes every effort to avoid having to take these steps, it is no longer possible to do so in this case.”

Later in the article the Post Crescent quotes from a letter to the district from McGinley’s lawyer.

Henderson wrote that the catalyst for the ban appeared to be what happened during a meeting on Feb. 18, when McGinley and her husband were at their son’s school office, “questioning and objecting to” school staff’s “unilateral decision to forcibly segregate her son from regular education students because of his autism and the associated behavioral manifestations.”

Henderson said the ban seemed part of a continued attempts to silence McGinley’s efforts to change the district by seeking to serve on the school board, and retaliate against her family for complaints of disability discrimination.
