Finance Committee Meeting Scheduled For 03/22/2021

The Finance Committee is meeting 03/22/2021 at 5:30pm.

They only have 3 action items.

1. Request to award the “City of Appleton’s 2021 Pierce Park Lighting Upgrades Phase 2 Project contract to Elmstar Electric Corp” for a project total of $125,046

2. ”Request to approve the 2020-2021 Budget carryover appropriations”. These look like projects that were budgeted for but then didn’t happen/were delayed for various reasons.

3. Request to approve 10 different budget amendments.

They also have several information items.

1. 2020 Budget adjustments that were approved by the Mayor and Finance Director in accordance with Policy

2. 2020-2021 Budget carryover appropriations were approved in accordance with Policy

3. A construction project that cost $33,282 less than budgeted.

They’ll also be reviewing the 2020 sustainability report as well as reviewing the report entitled “Creating a Sustainable City – A Master Plan to Move the City of Appleton Towards Sustainability”. These are the same reports that the Parks and Recreation committee will be reviewing.

As I mentioned in the Parks and Rec post, the “Creating a Sustainable City” report states, “There is a growing body of evidence that a shift in human behavior is necessary to counter the tides of over-consumption and environmental degradation; and work for a better future for ourselves, our children and the numerous species that share our planet.  Our existing economic systems, agricultural systems and automobile-oriented infrastructure are inherently unsustainable.”

The report also gives a non-inclusive list of things the city can do in response to these issues.

• Practice “Conservation”
• Practice “Restorative Redevelopment”
• Increase the resource efficiency of City facilities.
• Reduce pollution from City vehicles.
• Build and Buy Green.
• Work towards reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
• Reduce the City’s use of pesticides.
• Protect and restore the City’s Urban Waterways.
• Promote Environmental Stewardship.
• Encourage City employees to drive less.
• Improve and optimize Transportation/Multimodal Infrastructure.
• Improve and expand the City’s Green Infrastructure.
