The Appleton Common Council is meeting 03/17/2021 at 7pm.
The most interesting item of the evening will most likely be the discussion about increasing the Alderperson Salary. Alderperson Joe Martin is pushing for the salary to be increased from $6,221 to $10,125. Alderperson and Common Council Vice President Katie Van Zeeland suspects that the item will be kicked back to committee and possibly held.
They will also be voting on approving a contract with a design and engineering firm for the ongoing library project.
The human interest story is whether McGuiness pub will get approval for bagging the 9 parking meters on the block outside their restaurant so they can provide a safe, socially distanced drive-thru option for their St. Patrick’s day event. This request did not have time to go before the Common Council prior to the event taking place, so they bagged the meters after receiving preliminary approval by the Municipal Services Committee. [I’m going to go out on a limb here and predict that the Common Council approves this.]
The Common Council will also be taking a final vote on whether or not to remove the requirement that someone installing a second driveway get approval from their four adjacent neighbors.
The Mayor will be presenting his proclamation declaring March Colorectal Cancer Awareness month.
There will also be a Covid-19 update.
There are more items but those are the highlights. You can view full meeting details here: https://cityofappleton.legistar.com/MeetingDetail.aspx?ID=825734&GUID=3BA63E0C-B886-48F5-87C4-4C47B4CA644D&Options=info|&Search=
