The 22 Members Of The Committee Recommending Changing The Name of Lincoln Elementary

Although there appear to be no public records of the meetings, Greg Hartjes was able to provide me a list of the people who served on the committee that has proposed the renaming of Lincoln Elementary to Ronald C. Dunlap Elementary School – Home of the Lincoln Lions.

Of note is the fact that two of the three letters the Appleton Board of Education received for public comment on 02/08/2021 regarding this issue came from members of this committee–Michael Gage and Pafoua (Pam) Her–neither of whom identified themselves as being members of this committee. Another committee member, Scott Peeples, has been posting in support of this name change on the All Things Appleton facebook page (and here I must stress that being in support of this name change is not wrong) but did not identify himself as being a member of this committee until I asked him.

The list of names came from Greg Hartjes, and I have added biographical information to those names. I’ve grouped them by their status of AASD employee, City of Appleton employee, or community member.

  • Judy Baseman – AASD employee (Superintendent)
  • Bill McClone – AASD employee (Principal of Lincoln Elementary)
  • Ben Vogel – AASD employee (Assistant Superintendent)
  • Greg Hartjes – AASD employee (Chief Financial Officer)
  • Pa Lee Moua – AASD employee (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer)
  • Tim Hanna – former mayor of Appleton. (Greg Hartjes said the committee met several times over 9 months. I don’t know if Tim continued after his time as mayor ended.)
  • Karen Nelson – at the time the committee was meeting a City of Appleton employee (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator)
  • Kurt Eggebrecht – City of Appleton employee (Health Officer)
  • Colleen Rortveldt – City of Appleton employee (Appleton Public Library Director)
  • Cathy Spears – former City of Appleton alderperson and current Appleton Board of Health member
  • Jeff Nooyen – not a City of Appleton employee but not exactly a community member either – member of the Grand Chute Board of Supervisors and member of the Outagamie County Board of Supervisors
  • Harvey Samson – not exactly a City of Appleton employee, but not strictly a community member either – a local attorney and the secretary of the Appleton Police and Fire Commission
  • Pam Her – former AASD employee and former City of Appleton employee (per her letter she was the first Intercultural Relations Coordinator for both AASD and Appleton. Her LinkedIn profile lists her now as the Principal Consultant at 4Chi Business Solutions LLC)
  • Scott Peeples – community member (per his LinkedIn profile he was the Director of Community Engagement at Pillars until March of 2020)
  • Kempton Freeman – community member (his LinkedIn profile lists him as a diversity consultant/motivational speaker)
