The Board of Education met tonight and selected a candidate to fill the vacancy left by Leah Olson.
In Round 1 they weeded the field down to 3 candidates: Edward Ruffolo, Marie Waddell, and Katherine Van Groll.
Sheri Hartzheim and Amber McGinley, the two candidates prefered by the parent group that has been advocating for a return to in-person instruction, received the lowest number of votes.
In Round 2, the Board, by a vote of 5 to 1, elected Edward Ruffolo to the Board of Education. Ed is an IT Director at Miron Construction and Vice President of Appleton Education Foundation. Deborah Truyman was the only one who did not vote for Ed, choosing instead to cast her vote for Marie Waddell.
Of note is the fact that Gary Jahnke was the President of Appleton Education Foundation from 2016-2017, Kay Eggert’s Ballotpedia page lists an association with AEF, and one can find records of donations to AEF by a James Bowman, a Kay Eggert, a Barry O’Connor, and a Kristine Sauter, so it’s perhaps not surprising that the Board went with someone who, like them, was associated with Appleton Education Foundation.
