The City Plan Commission is meeting 12/08/2020 at 4pm.
The most interesting item on the agenda appears to be the request from the owners of the Refuge (the former Monte Alverno Retreat Center) to be rezoned from a P-I Public Institutional District to a C-1 Neighborhood Mixed Use Distric. This change would allow the developement “for mixed use areas, including a range of commercial and residential uses.” Amongst other things, they would like to
- Use the 1st and 2nd floors of the building for overnight stays (1-3) weeks for film crews, actors, actresses, musicians, etc.
- Possibly install an in-ground swimming pool in the basement of the building
- Demolish a garage and construct a building addition to be used as a movie/music production studio.
- Construct a loading dock area
City staff are recommending that this zoning change be approved. You can read the full staff report here:
